In October of 1994, three student filmmakers disappeared in the woods while filming a documentary about the legend of the Blair Witch. One year later their film is discovered ... and we are led to believe that this film is that footage. The entire film is shown in 4:3 ratio (TV shape), with shaky amateur home video style. This is all intended to make you believe that you really are watching the footage from a real tragedy. The story is about three filmmakers who go into a large woodland area in search of evidence of the legendary Blair Witch. However they become lost and end up having to camp out in the woods for several nights. Each night something successively more weird happens, as the film builds up to the predictable conclusion. If you can believe that this is real footage, then this film would be truly scary. However, it is so obvious that this is all a set up, and the story is somewhat contrived. Nevertheless, this film has an interesting concept behind it and if this were a student film (which it resembles) then I would be reviewing it very positively. However, as a mainstream cinema film, it doesn't quite deliver, and the female character is so annoying that I couldn't wait for her to meet her fate. |
